Why you may need to delete pages
A PDF often comes with pages you do not want to share. It can be a blank page at the end of a scan, a duplicate that was scanned twice, a cover sheet, or a page with private details that the receiver does not need. Sending the full file looks untidy, and it can also make the file bigger than the upload limit. Removing those pages is a quick fix.
How to delete pages with Velfile
- Open Delete PDF Pages and choose your PDF.
- In the Pages to delete box, type the pages you want to remove, such as 2, 4-5. You can also use Quick pick for the first or last page.
- Check the line under the box. It tells you how many pages will be removed and how many will remain.
- Press Delete pages, then Download PDF.
The work is done in your browser. Your file is not uploaded to a server, and your original file stays exactly as it was.
How to write the page numbers
Use a dash for a range and a comma to separate parts. For example, 1, 3-4, 9 removes page 1, pages 3 and 4, and page 9. If you type the same page twice, it is removed only once. The tool counts pages from the first page of the file, so the first page is always 1, even when the page shows a different printed number such as "iii" or "cover".
Before you press the button
- Open the PDF first and note the pages you want to remove. Many viewers show the page number in a small box at the bottom or top of the screen.
- Count carefully with scans. A scan can start with a blank sheet or a cover that shifts every number by one.
- Keep the original. The tool never changes it, so you can always start again.
A real example
You scanned a ten page contract, but page 1 is a blank sheet and pages 9 and 10 are the same page scanned twice. Type 1, 10 and press Delete pages. You now have an eight page file in the right order, and you did not have to scan again. If the new file is still above the limit of an upload form, shrink it with Compress PDF.
Delete pages or keep pages?
Both tools give the same kind of result, so choose the one that needs the shorter list. To remove two pages from a long file, type those two pages in Delete PDF Pages. To keep only three pages out of fifty, use Split PDF and type the three pages you want. Our guide on taking pages out of a PDF explains the second way in detail.
Check the new file before you send it
Open the new PDF and scroll through it. Make sure the right pages are gone and the order still makes sense. If you removed pages to keep something private, look at the whole file once more before you send it, including the first and last pages. A quick check takes less time than sending a correction later.
Common mistakes
- Mixing up printed and real page numbers. Always use the position in the file, not the number printed on the page.
- Trying to remove every page. The tool needs at least one page to remain.
- Typing a page that does not exist. A number larger than the page count is reported, so fix it and try again.
- Forgetting to check the result. Take a minute to look at the new file.
Questions people ask
Does deleting pages lower the quality?
No. Pages are copied, not redrawn, so text stays selectable and the quality does not drop.
Can I bring a deleted page back?
Not from the new file, but your original is untouched. Run the tool again from the original with a different selection.
How big can the file be?
Up to 100 MB per file.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is processed in your browser on your device.
