Why print on one sheet
Printing one small ID photo on a whole page wastes paper and money, and a print shop usually sells photo paper in the 4R size (10 x 15 cm). A single sheet can hold many copies of the same photo, so you arrange them once, print once and cut them out. This is the usual way to get the printed copies that schools, offices and applications ask for.
What you need
- A photo that is already cropped and has the background colour you need. If it does not, make it first with ID Photo (Pas Foto).
- Paper: 4R (10 x 15 cm) or A4.
- A printer, or a print shop that can print from a file.
How to do it with Velfile
- Open Print Sheet and choose your ID photo. JPG, PNG and WEBP work.
- Pick the Photo size (2 x 3, 3 x 4 or 4 x 6 cm) and Paper. The preview shows how many photos fit.
- If a face is cut off, use Photo position to move the crop. Keep Show thin cutting lines on, unless the print shop will cut the photos for you.
- Press Download JPG for a print shop, or Download PDF if you print it yourself.
Everything happens in your browser, on your device. Your photo is not uploaded to a server.
How many photos fit
On 4R paper, a 2 x 3 cm photo fits 16 times, a 3 x 4 cm photo 8 times and a 4 x 6 cm photo 4 times. A4 holds many more, and you can choose fewer. If another layout fits more photos, the tool turns them sideways by itself and tells you.
Print at the right size
This step matters most. Most print dialogs shrink the page to fit, which makes the photos too small. Choose Actual size or 100 percent, and turn off Fit to page. The PDF page has the exact size of the paper, so it prints correctly when scaling is off.
Print one test sheet first and measure one photo with a ruler. A 3 x 4 cm photo should measure 3 cm wide and 4 cm tall.
Cutting the photos
Cut along the thin guide lines with scissors or a paper cutter. At a print shop, you can ask them to cut the photos for you. In that case, switch the cutting lines off so no grey lines show on the edges.
If the photos look soft
The sheet is made at 300 dpi, the usual quality for photo printing. A very small photo can still look soft when printed. The tool warns you when your photo has fewer than about 150 pixels per inch at the size you chose. Start again from a larger original, or choose a smaller photo size.
